My mommy brought home a brand new toy for me,...but the toy really, really, really sucks. Should I play with it a little while to show my appreciation that she bought me something (even though it sucks), or should I refuse to touch it at all to get my point across? What should I do?

I would refuse to play with it on principle. Do they think we will play with anything. We are nothing if not discriminating.
I agree. Refuse. There have to be some things in the house you would really like to play with. Let the other cats have this thing, and you can go play with their toys.

Hey, I used to have one of those things when I was a kitten and I loved it! However, I don't always play with everything mom brings home. We must have discriminating tastes!

We do not play with toys we do not enjoy. But we do keep them in a pile of unused, unenjoyed toys. Sometimes, as it seems in this case, it is large enough to hold other toys we do not enjoy.
Ignore it!! In a few weeks when it is rediscovered, it may be the best toy in the world.
I would throw up on it.

I would refuse to play with it, as well. Sometimes beans need to be hit upside the head with a two-by-four, and since we don't have opposable thumbs with which to accomplish this, outright refusal is the best alternative!
I wouldn't even *look at the offending toy. That gets them every time! (Or blog about the bad choice.)
Just look at it sadly. You are sure to get another, better toy in no time!
You know the bestest toy I have efur found are COFFEE STIRRURS!!!!! They drive alla us Ballicai crazy!
