Tattletale Thursday

Presenting Exhibit A... ...and his ginormous hiney On the day in question (yesterday) , Exhibit A and his ginormous sixteen pound hiney were loitering around the closed door to our basement...staring, whining, whimpering, grunting, sighing, meowing, and pawing at the doorknob trying to get Mommy to open the basement door so he could go cricket hunting. Mommy wouldn't open the door for him, because it makes her sad when he plays too rough with crickets and makes them go deaded. Since our back door is right beside our basement door, Mommy looked outside and noticed that one of the feral kitties she's been feeding was on the back deck waiting for a snack. Mommy took some food out to the little introoder and sat with him until he was finished. When she came back indoors, she noticed that something was very wrong. It was quiet indoors. Ambrose is always making a racket, and he was nowhere to be found. Mommy was frantic. She looked everywhere for him, but he could not be found. Mommy figured that he must have sneaked outdoors when she went outside to feed the feral kitty. Mommy has perfected some very impressive Ninja-like moves for getting out the door without letting us out, so she couldn't believe he was able to sneak out,..but that was the only explanation. Since it was getting dark, she hurried to go outdoors to search for Ambrose, but as she reached for the back door, she noticed something was amiss. The basement door was open a crack with the chain lock still latched. Since the switch for the back deck light is right outside the basement door, Mommy had opened the basement door a crack while leaving the chain lock latched and had reached through the two and a half inch crack to turn on the outdoor deck light without opening the basement door completely. Mommy usually shuts the door completely after turning on the light, but forgot this time. Ambrose used to be able to squeeze through that narrow crack in the door when he was a kitten...about ten pounds ago. Mommy knew there was no way Ambrose and his giant hiney could have fit through that crack now. But hoping for a miracle, she unlatched the chain lock to the basement door, and much to her surprise and relief, she saw Ambrose's sweet little face staring right back at her waiting to be let back in from the basement. We don't know how he did it without hurting himself, but Ambrose and his ginormous hiney actually squeezed through that tiny crack in the door with the chain lock latched. We are very happy our little Houdini is safe. As punishment for not shutting the basement door completely, Mommy is grounded. We will most likely give her the opportunity to shorten her sentence with good behavior such as giving us extra treats, scritches, and snuggles.

I'm glad he didn't slip outside. There are too many kitties in the CB missing lately.

It's amazing how we kitties can get into things, with or without ginormous hineys.

Way to go, Ambrose! Cats are very good at getting their ginormous hineys through small spaces. I have read that if a cat's head will go through a space, the rest of the body will, too, however big it may be. Though there is the story of the huge fat cat who got stuck in the cat flap, so maybe it's not always true.

From one tabby with a 16 pound heinie to another, nice job Ambrose!!!! My mum doesn't like it when I hunt bugs either. But it's so much fun!

That hiney doesn't look THAT ginormous to me.

But I'm glad you're safe, Ambrose.

Our Ferris has a ginormous hiney and he can get through narrowly cracked doors too. It baffles the mom!

Good thing that momma founded the basement kitty!

My bean thought that was really funny. The beans had a bunny nick-named the "Houdini Rabbit". He was another escape artist.

We're glad you\re safe, Ambrose! And you have CLEARLY demonstrated that your backside is nowhere near as large as someone would have us believe!

It is always good to see a story with a happy ending. Cat curiosity doesn't always end up that way!

Ginger and Nigel are clapping paws! So impressed and now hopeful that they too...and their own ginormous hineys...can do more than they ever imagined.

Ambrose is their new hero.

Signed...me with the cute little hiney,
Cory

What a cute story. And so supenseful too. Like the mention of the king of escape. That's what I call good kitty-literature! And it's a real-life story too!! Well done Ambrose!

Sometimes we like to try to get out. Our Mom does not appreciate our antics. We are glad everything is OK there!

What a great story. Glad it had a happy ending. I have a cat that never goes outside and I panic when she gets out by mistake. It is a horrible feeling.

That is a very sizable hiney... It's amazing what a cat can fit a big hiney into!

Hello again Grrreta!
Thank you for visiting my blog and commenting on the big shiny object that is standing where we had our summer garden spot. It is a cart that humans use to move things like piles of wood or dirt or furniture. Our human Daddy is a workaholic and needs this contraption to move said items, wood-piles, dirt or odd bits of furniture. He seems to not understand that this was our garden, but now that it has gotten colder, it doesn't seem to matter anymore. Maybe Mommie can help us restore our garden-spot when spring comes again.

Hi Greta!

Ambrose sure is tricky, while your mom is grounded maybe you could get her to give you some new toys to, they always give in when they are grounded.

Whitey's hiney is getting a little bit ginormous, too, Ambrose. But just the other night Whitey managed to slip through a crack in the bathroom door to make sure Mom was OK in there. Nobuddy wuz more surprised than us.

About feeding the birds -- I haven't seen any squirrels around, though I know that they live in the area. The bird feeders are hanging from the eye-bolts on the ends of the clothesline poles. I don't think the squirrels can climb the metal poles. I did see a chipmunk eating some seed that the birds had dropped from the feeder.
