Do They Have Jenny Craig for Kitties?

Ambrose says "With my new diet, I am so hungry I could eat the TV remote." Ambrose and I went to the v-e-t last weekend. When the vet called Ambrose a "big boy", Mommy asked her if she thought Ambrose should go on a diet. Not only did the vet say that Ambrose (at 16 lbs) should go on a diet, but she said that I (at 13 lbs.) should go on a diet too. Aaaaaak!!! I am pretty sure the vet's scales must be defective. While we were at the v-e-t, Mommy learned more about my mysterious past. Mommy asked the vet to approximate my age, since we don't know how old I am. Mommy mentioned that she thought I might be an older kitty, because I have so much difficulty jumping onto the bed that she had to buy pet steps to make it easier for me. The vet guessed that I am between 5 and 10 years old, and she discovered the reason that I don't jump very well. She said it appears that one of my back legs had been broken in the past, but was not properly set, so the bone juts out a little on the inside of my leg. Since I have been living with Mommy I have not been injured, so it had to have happened during the time I lived at the auto repair shop before I came to live with Mommy. The vet said she could rebreak the leg and reset it, but she thought it would be best just to leave it as is. It makes Mommy very sad to know that I suffered so much in my previous life. Now that my secret has been revealed, I plan to milk it for all it's worth. I think I can get her to wait on me hand and foot and spoil me even more than she already does. In other news, Clive the stray handsome black mancat that Mommy started feeding on our back deck this winter has been adopted by one of our neighbors. Clive had been living with us since December, but didn't seem to enjoy being around other kitties very much. He was welcome to live with us forever, but Mommy had hoped to find another home for him where he could get the individual attention he needs. Clive's new forever family is very nice. The best part is that they live nearby, so Mommy can visit Clive whenever she wants. We will miss Clive, but I think he will be very happy in his new home where there is a much better bean-to-kitty ratio to ensure that he will get lots of love, scritches, and attention.

It is sad that you broke your leg in the past. We hope it doesn't give you much trouble.
We are glad Clive has got a forever home and your mum will be able to visit him there.

Mom laughed when she read your title!! We don't think 13 pounds is that much weight at all!! You don't need to be on a diet.

It makes us very sad to hear about your leg. We are sorry to hear you had a rough past, but are so glad to hear you are living the good life now! Our Maizy (12 lbs)and Ferris (16 lbs) were also told to go on a diet at their appointment last month. Mom has been scaling back their dry food just a tad.

Concatulations to Clive! Wow, that is fabulous news!

We can only imagine what your life was like in the past, but think you are very wise to milk it for all it's worth!

Disco knows all about diets, he is on the rollercoaster diet, up and down. But the cat hospital I work at is a big fan of all canned for weight loss. Mostly protein, very little carbs. Disco went from 14# 6 oz to 12# 2 oz in 12 weeks. Unfortunately, the minute he got back into eating dry--even the low carb, no grain kind, he put it all back on. I really worry about his joints-hips and knees, going up and down the stairs. Once the kittens have left home, he is starting back on the diet again as I will be able to feed canned and take up the dry in the daytime. If you decide to do that, here's a good website about canned food (although it has a lot about raw diet too, which I don't have the time to mess with...

When I had a fight a few weeks ago, Nick took me to the v-e-t. She exclaimed to him what a 'big boy' I was. She said, 'He looks a little overweight, but he's just a big cat isn't he?'

I don't feel like I've been getting quite as much food since then...

Hey, it's cool that Clive has a suitable forever home. Thanks to your mum for looking after him though!

A diet? What on earth for? I think you're both perfect as you are. Vets have no idea sometimes.

I'm sorry you had a broken leg once. That must have been painful.

Your vet probably got the scales from the same shop as our vet did. His scales are faulty, too. We still got put on a diet though. Hrmph.

We are sorry that you weren't looked after well in your old life. We are happy though that you found your real true Forever home at last, and will only ever know love and kindness.

Concatulations to Clive!:)

Oh dear, why do vets have to be so grumpy? Sorry about the dieting...

And sorry about your poor leg. We're so glad you are now in such good hands!

We cringed when we read re-break... we are glad you are not going to have to go through that!

Gandalf's litter mate BooBoo broked his right front paw when he was only 4 weeks old. It was right in the growth plate and healed icky, too so he can not extend it properly. BooBoo is 5 years old and it has not slowed him down one bit. But he is a little bit extra plump!

Yay for Clive getting a Forever Home!

Oh Grrreta, dear...we feel so bad about your legs. Hopefully those pet steps help you get up to where you can get a good nap.
