Thankful

When Mommy sees a homeless or feral cat she feels especially sad, because those kitties have to spend so much of their time and energy just trying to survive, often facing great dangers just to quell their hunger and survive amongst humans and other creatures. It also saddens Mommy that most communities still deal with pet overpopulation by killing homeless animals. Being a homeless kitty is a very dangerous life that kitties don't choose for themselves. So, when Mommy met Teddi, she knew that she had to help her. When Mommy and I first met Teddi in May of 2007, Teddi was feral, skinny, had ear mites, and had an injury to her hind leg that made it difficult for her to hunt and fend for herself...and she had just given birth to kittens. She was a desperate mess. Once we began feeding her, she regained her health within a few weeks. But, it took much longer for her to become tame enough to be handled. Mommy had her spayed when she was still wild, but she wanted her to be tame enough to be taken to the vet for future vaccinations and any other health issues that may arise. For the first four months, progress was very slow, but then Teddi had breakthroughs every day in which she became more tame and affectionate. In the past year, Teddi went from being completely feral to being an extremely sweet, cuddly, and playful kitty. Adopting a feral cat has been one of the most rewarding experiences ever. Now that Teddi is no longer feral and has a forever home, she has the time and energy to play. It is such a truly joyful sight when Teddi plays.

Grrreta, you'll have to excuse Victor. He needs to learn some manners. Your Mommy must be very nice and patient to work so hard to save Teddi! Give her some purrs and sandpaper kisses from us, ok?

Grrreta, that was such a wonderful story ... we enjoyed hearing how Teddi came to live with you! The feral kitties that live next door to us are now letting our Aunt Cathie touch and pet them, so they are making progress!
Purrs and headbutts to you!
