This is Ambrose speaking. As the mancat of the house, I get to do the Monday posts. Today I will tell you how I got my unusual name. I was born to feral cat parents and lived outdoors for the first few weeks of my life. During that time, I ran and hid when Mommy got too close to me. Because Mommy was determined to give me a forever home, she knew she had to call me something besides the black stripey one. Her first task was to determine if I was a male or female. (This is where it gets very embarrassing.) Because she couldn't get very close to me, and I was VERY young and small, she couldn't be sure, but she concluded that I appeared to be a female. Since I had the most amazing amber colored markings on my face, she named me Amber. (Sigh)...I, the mancatliest of cats, was named Amber....a GIRL'S NAME. Once she discovered her error, Mommy didn't want to traumatize me any further by calling me something completely different, so she chose a boy's name that was similar to Amber. I think Ambrose sounds a little like a name a grandpa would have, but Mommy likes it because it is unusual and reminds her of my beautiful amber fur markings, amber eyes, and rose colored nose. (It may require a few years of kitty therapy for me to recover from the trauma of having had a girl's name.)

Um, it's REALLY common for this to happen. Even breeders make mistakes! Mom says don't get her started!
Hey - you are all gorgeous! Waving at you from Australia.
People think I am a girl NOW so don't feel bad!
There are some tough bikers boys near here and their last name is Ambrose. I think your name sounds very mancatly!!!

Ambrose, your name story is a lot like mine... Mom named me Gracie because the vet's office (where Mom rescued me from) told her I was a Ladycat. The second day Mom noticed that I was a Mancat!! Mom changed my name from Gracie to Grayson so it would still sound similar.
I think Ambrose is a very perfect name for you, with your handsome amber colored eyes!
what a great story. you know, there is a famous author man named Ambrose Bierce known world wide,
and another man named Stephen E. Ambrose that wrote Band of Brothers. you are in good company with your unique name.
hey, if Max the Psychokitty does a 3rd book, you could submit a story and be an author too!
you really are handsome with all those cool Amber colors. Great eyes.
Ambrose is a very manly name but you could always shorten it to Brose.
Ambrose, I think you've done a great job recovering from your misidentification. You're such a Manly ManCat and 'Ambrose' is very distinguished and kind of high-brow sounding..it means you're intelligent!
Ambrose is a very cool name and it's good with you!
I think Ambrose is an awesome name! Much better than Salvador.

We have to agree with everyone. We really like the name Ambrose, and loved the story of how you got it.
Ahhh, don't worry too much about the kitty therapy. You'll do fine. We think Ambrose is a loverly name.

Humans aren't so smart sometimes. You'd think they could tell about kitties, but much of the time they can't. Ambrose is a great name for you, though, because you do have those stunning amber eyes.
Purrrrrrrrs,
Boni Maroni
Thanks for sharing your story. At least your Mom did change your name to a more manly name before you got too old.
After Mom caught me (Strider) and before I had a name, she took me to the v-e-t to make sure it was okay for me to be around Smeagol. The v-e-t tech looked and said I was a girl (and I was about 2 years old)!! The v-e-t came in and set her straight (I had already had my hooha-ectomy).
Anyway, we think Ambrose is a cool, mancatly name!!
Dear Ambrose,
I really like your picture, because I can see we have such a similar look. You have the black ear-tufts, and those special cheek-whiskers too!
I just got my special cheek whiskers in during the past couple of weeks, and my mom thinks they are wonderful. I do too!
Purrs,
Abby Normal
