New Year's Resolution

Hi Kitties,
I've been hard at work on my new year's resolution...to master the perfect sleeping position on my mom's bed, so that with the help of my brofur and sisfurs, Mommy will have to figure out how to sleep on an area of the bed the size of a toy mousie. On second thought, toy mousie will need somewhere to sleep too. I hope he doesn't mind sharing his space with Mommy.

Tabby Tattletale Tuesday - Crime Wave!

Kitties! I've been robbed!

Our safe, happy home has become a crime scene! Last night somebody stole our foodz! I noticed it when I was doing my midnight patrols. I discovered my kitten chow and the big kitties' snack buffet had been stolen! I was very, very upset. Luckily Mommy had given me a special snack of my favorite foodz around 10 PM, so I was able to make it through the night without starving. Unfortunately, I also missed breakfast the next morning, because Mommy wanted to take me to the vet's office so I could nap there all day. I'm always up for a nap, so I went along. Unfortunately, I had more things stolen while I was there. I don't even know how it happened. I was just taking a nap, and when I woke up, ...uh...um... somebody had stolen my ::whispers:: hoo-ha's!...and they ::whispers:: shaved my hiney! What kind of sicko criminal would do that to a kitty taking a nap? I'm scared to tell my mom what happened, because I'm afraid she might be disappointed that I didn't keep better track of my, um...stuff. Hopefully, I will be able to find my stolen belongings and get them back before Mommy finds out. So kitties, if you see an ad on Craig's List or hear of someone trying to sell something that sounds like what I lost, let me know...

Word-ish Wednesday

Hi Kitties,

I'm a little bit worried. I have an appointment for a hoo-ha-ectomy at the end of the month. I didn't understand why I need to be "fixed", but now I see the problem...I'm pixelated! (Oh wait, Mommy did that to my picture so I wouldn't seem like an exhibitionist...Boy, am I relieved.)

In other news, I've been one very busy mancat-in-training. Here are some interesting facts about me:

I am obsessed with watching Grrreta use the litterbox. I accompany her every time and sit and stare.
I talk a lot...usually very loud with my mouth wide open and my eyes closed. Mommy says I look like a cartoon character when I do that.
I insist on waking Mommy every morning between 2 AM and 3 AM for snuggle time. Mommy says I'm the best snuggler ever. I jump onto her chest, collapse into a puddle, and cling to her tightly as if want to melt into her chest. I think she likes that.
I love to crawl under the bed and climb up through the gap between the mattress and headboard between Mommy's pillows to surprise her. It works!

Hi Kitties!

I've been one very busy mancat-in-training. If you look closely at the picture below of me lying on Mommy's computer, you will see I managed to step on the exact keyboard keys needed to rotate the picture on the screen 180 degrees,...so everything was upside down! Mommy was very impressed by my computer skills. I have also been stepping on the keyboard to help her type lots of interesting search terms on our Google home page. Mommy used to think people who blamed their pets for visiting incriminating web sites were lying, but after witnessing my handiwork she is a little less judgmental of those people.

Mommy insisted we include this picture to explain why we haven't been able to comment on our friends' blogs as much as we want. Every time I see the laptop computer open, I get sleepy and insist on napping on the keyboard.

My favorite part of having a forever home is having a big brofur. I love Ambrose very much. For the first two weeks he was afraid and wouldn't come near me, but now we are the best wrassling and chasing buddies ever. We play constantly. Mommy says I am exactly what Ambrose needed. Ambrose is very playful and energetic and needed a kitty who enjoys playing a little rough. She had considered adopting a mancat, but when I showed up on her back deck she decided it was destiny for me to be Ambose's brofur. She was concerned Ambrose might play too rough with a kitten, but he is the sweetest and gentlest big brofur ever.

Guess who has a forever home?

Yep, the mom couldn't bring herself to even mention to anyone that Clarence needed a home. She decided that he found his way to our back deck for a reason...to be part of our family. So, we are ~~a little ticked off~~ very pleased to introduce the newest member of our family, Clarence!

Hi Kitties! Clarence here.
I'm very excited to have my very own forever home and to be a blogging kitteh. For my very first post, I will tell you a little about myself.

1. I was five to six weeks old when I mysteriously appeared on my new family's back deck.
2. I went to the vet and passed all my tests with flying colors. Yay!
3. I love to show off my tummy
4. I talk a LOT. A LOT.
5. I have a very impressive poofy sideways crabwalk that I do when I want to look enormous.
6. I love to snuggle with my new mom and lick her face.
7. I love playing with my new big brofur, Ambrose. Mom says it looks like Ambrose is mopping the floor with me, but I look like I'm really enjoying it.
8. I love it when my new big sisfur Grrreta licks the top of my head.
9. I am fascinated by my new sisfurs Teddi and Chloe, but they always run away from me.
10. Did I mention that I like to show off my tummy?

Here are Clarence and Hello Kitty after a wrestling match. Hello Kitty is pouting because the judges deemed bunny-kicking a legal wrestling move which helped Clarence win the match.

Clarence is working very hard at learning the important skill of being a furry alarm clock. This is a big job, so he has enlisted the help of an actual alarm clock to take his shift during nap breaks.

Clarence is a quick learner. He has already learned to nap in the spot on the bed that makes it completely impossible for Mommy to get comfy in bed.

Thursday in the Garden...Introoder Edition

Hi Kitties!

We love visiting the blogs of the Society of Feline Gardeners every Thursday, and have been begging our mom to let us join. Well kitties, it sounds like we finally got through to her. Two weeks ago, she told us she found something very special growing in our garden. We were thrilled and insisted she take pictures of it immediately so we could do a "Thursday in the Garden" post. She took the pictures, but said she would be too busy to post for a while. She was right about being busy. She has been "working in the garden" for days and has finally agreed to do our post. So here it is! This is the very special thing Mommy found growing in our garden.

Huh?...What the... Hey, wait a minute! What is THAT?

Mommy, you have some 'splaining to do!

Mommy:
You may remember the story we told of how our Teddi was a feral cat who had kittens in our back yard four years ago. It has been my mission since then to make sure every homeless kitty on our block is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, fed and cared for as much as they will accept. The plan has been a success so far, and my little colony of three outdoor feral cats has lived happily and kitten-free for four years. So, I was very surprised when two weeks ago while I was putting out the morning snax for the ferals that a tiny kitten ran out of the feeding station and bolted away. I looked around for him with no luck and eventually had to leave for work. I had hoped he hadn't gone far, and was relieved when I returned home from work and found he had made himself right at home in the Feral Villa on our back deck. His eyes were still mostly blue and he looked waaaaay too tiny to be away from his mom. Since he was so young, the most likely scenario is that his mamacat lived on a nearby block and was relocating her family when something happened and he got misplaced.

The picture above was taken two weeks ago, and the following picture was taken yesterday. He has grown a LOT in two weeks.

He was wild and terrified at first, but is now completely tame. He is living in our bathroom until I can take him to the vet for a check-up tomorrow. Because we already have four cats in our family, I will try to find the perfect forever home for him. If the perfect home doesn't present itself, we will gladly welcome the little guy into our family. We have named him "Clarence".

Today is the day we celebrate our birthdays. Grrreta was gotcha'd in April six years ago. Teddi, then a feral momma-cat, started stopping by for dinner in early May four years ago, and Ambrose and Chloe were born feral kittens in early May four years ago. We invite you to help us celebrate our special day and join our party, but first our Mommy has something to say:

I want to thank our dear blogging friends for visiting us despite our infrequent posts and commenting. Over the last couple of years my job has become far more demanding of my time than a job should, leaving little time for blogging. Although we usually don't have enough time to comment on the blogs we visit, we rarely miss a day of reading our friends' blogs. We feel very fortunate to have the found the Cat Blogosphere, the most amazing group of people and furries who truly make the world a better place in so many ways. We feel truly privileged that you share your adventures with us. Every one of your posts is an expression of the joy of having furry family members. We thank you for sharing that with us.

Now, let the party begin!

We have chick-hen, ham, nip, meowgaritas, niptinis and real live dead shrimp! Everyfurry dig in! For entertainment, we have games of Thundering Herd of Elephants, Star Chaser, Da Bird, Cat Dancer, and lots of jingle balls and toy mousies to play with.

Hi Kitties!

I've done it! I've managed to make it through another year without getting caught doing anything really naughty! Since it is Christmas Eve and there are still a few more hours that Santa might be watching for naughtiness, I'm not taking any chances...I'll be here napping until I smell reindeer.

Our secretary/mom has been working waaaaay too many hours at work, so we haven't been able to post or comment as much as we would like. Hopefully she will find more time in the new year. Hi Furriends!

We have really missed you! We apologize for our mom being seriously remiss in attending to her duties as our blogging assistant. Although we haven't posted in a while, we do manage to get her to help us visit all of our favorite blogs almost every day...sans the witty and insightful comments. We admit it...we are lurkers. We lurk. We apologize for not leaving comments, and we will try our best to get our assistant to make more time for her duties so we can comment more. Here's a bit of what we've been up to in the last few weeks.

Exhibit A: Turbo Scratcher with shredded scratchy pad, customized by Ambrose

Exhibit B: The remains of five Bobcat Bungarees (little furry toys that dangle from a long elastic string hung from the top of a door). Ambrose's favorite new game is to see how quickly he can chew through the elastic string. He chewed through these five all in one week.

Exhibit C: Grrreta totally nipped out on some primo home-grown nip and valerian that fills these cool Disc-O-Nips toys, made by the lovely and talented PM, that we won as a prize in a give-away from Goldie, Banshee, and Shade at Sumac Stories.

Exhibit D: Our friend, Fin's book. We really enjoyed having our mom read it to us. It is a must-read book for kitties and their staff. We are very proud of Fin for writing such a funny and heartwarming book.

Also, Skeezix's Food Lady is having a fund raiser for the Susan G. Koman 3-Day for the Cure TM 60 mile walk. Those who donate on the Food Lady's fund raising site between now and noon on July 2nd will be entered in a drawing for some fabulous prizes including a custom mixed-media pet portrait created by the Food Lady herself. My Gotcha Day

GRRRETA: See my face. This is NOT my happy face. As some of my dear sweet blogging friends have pointed out, today is my gotcha day. It seems that my mom was the last one to figure it out. Can you believe SHE FORGOT MY GOTCHA DAY! No card, no gift, no party, no extra treats or snuggles...nada, nothing, zilch! I can't believe it! I have given her the best years of my life and this is what I get! If you look closely at my picture, you will see she even had the nerve to use a picture of me with my furs sticking up on the top of my head. If I don't see a freaking party hat or a gotcha day gift before midnight, I swear I'm calling the ASPCA! MOM, AMBROSE, TEDDI, and CHLOE: SURPRISE !!!!!!! HAPPY GOTCHA DAY !!!! GRRRETA: Nice try, but I know you forgot. MOM: Okay, I admit it. I planned to have a party on May 1st for all four of you kitties, because your gotcha days are within two weeks of each other, but I can't believe I forgot to wish you a happy gotcha day and give you your gift today. I am SO sorry! Thanks to your wonderful friends who reminded us, we still have time to make it up to you on your gotcha day. Whapping Ping Pong Balls - The Movie

Before you view our video, Mommy wanted us to tell you she is very embarrassed by how dirty the table top looks. The table in the video is where she keeps the special water glass from which we kitties drink. There is a glass top on the table, and the top of the glass is CLEAN...but as you can see from the movie, there is a bunch of dust or mystery debris under the glass top where we kitties climb the steps to drink. After seeing the video, Mommy cleaned underneath the glass...finally. Now that we have called your attention to the inadequacies of our staff, we would like to introduce our new video, Whapping Ping Pong Balls. Enjoy!

Cat-O-Lympics Curling Competition

We are very excited to announce we are participating in Fin's Cat-O-Lympics. Ambrose has been training all year long for the Cat-O-Lympics curling competition. Curling is a sport in which two teams of four players each compete in sliding large stones toward a mark in the center of a circle. Players use curling brooms to sweep the ice surface in front of the stone. The sweeping clears debris from the ice surface, and may warm the ice, to make the stone travel farther and to change the amount of curl or trajectory of the stone. And here is a picture of Ambrose participating in the 2010 Cat-O-Lympics curling competition. Ambrose is pretty confident in his performance, but he is a little concerned that Daisy the Curly Cat or some of the kitties from Curlz and Swirlz, Life with Cornish Rex Cats... might be competing too. Those kitties have some serious natural talent at curling. We can't wait to see who wins the medals and what Jim and Bob, the commentators at the Cat-O-Lympics headquarters at Housecat Confidential, have to say about the competition. My New Middle Name

AMBROSE: I am sooooooo excited! I finally got my very own middle name! When I was adopted, Mommy said I didn't need a middle name, because it seems the only time anyone hears their middle name is when they are in trouble for doing something naughty. Since I am her sweet, perfect boy, she couldn't imagine that I would ever do anything naughty, so I didn't need a middle name. I had resigned myself to living my entire life without a middle name, but I am thrilled to tell you that Mommy has apparently had a change of heart. It seems that she has decided that middle names aren't just for when a kitty is naughty. They can be used when a kitty does something AWESOME too...like chasing his sisters or kicking litter outside the litter box onto the floor and using that as his own private litter box. Since I do a LOT of really awesome things, Mommy finally gave me a middle name that I get to hear a LOT. It is music to my ears! My new middle name is "LOUISE". Isn't it really pretty? At first I was confused because "Louise" is a girl's name, and I am a MANCAT, but Mommy said that was the first name that popped into her head when she saw my handiwork, so that's the middle name I got. Since I had to wait until I was two and a half years old to get my middle name, I am going to try really hard to do lots and lots of AWESOME things so I can make up for lost time and hear my new name a lot. "Ambrose Louise"...it's a dream come true. A NOTE FROM THE MOMMY: I know...I know...I didn't mean to give my sweet little mancat a girl's name. It just popped out of my mouth when I saw his handiwork, and it just stuck. In order to make it up to him, I would like to give him a new better middle name chosen by his blogging furriends. We are taking suggestions for Ambrose's new middle name. Please leave your name suggestions in the comments in this post. Later, we will post a poll so everyone can vote and choose Ambrose's new better middle name.

(Gently) USED Turbo Track Seeking a New Forever Home: A few months ago, we got THREE sets of Bergan Turbo Tracks. Three sets allowed us to build the track in lots of fun configurations. Mommy hoped this toy would occupy Ambrose so he wouldn't want to play his favorite game, "Chase and tackle your sisfur". He really enjoyed the Turbo Track at first and could be heard playing with it for a few weeks, especially at night...but eventually he tired of it. It takes quite a bit of floor space and is now just collecting dust, so we have decided to give it away to a lucky kitty who would like to have it. It is (gently) USED and we no longer have the original boxes, but it is in near perfect condition. We will pay shipping costs up to $30, which should cover shipping to most places worldwide. We will send it to the first eligible kitty to leave a comment saying he or she would like to give it a forever home. That kitty will receive all three sets. You must be either a member of the Cat Blogosphere with a cat blog or have a Catster ID to be eligible. After two long years, we are very pleased to announce Mommy has graduated from grade school! ...huh?...grade school?...what the?...She's like a squillion years old and she's just now finishing GRADE school! This is so embarrassing! UPDATE: After a bit more research, I have ascertained that Mommy has graduated from grad school, not grade school. We are very proud of her and very happy that she will have more free time to make up for two years worth of scritches, snuggling and play. Now that Mommy will have more free time, she has also promised to help us blog more. We are really looking forward to catching up with all of our friends.

A Very Bad PurrFurMance Review

It's that time of year again for our staff's Annual PurrFurMance Review. This year's review included the bonus features of a verbal reprimand and the back of disrespect. We are very disappointed with our staff's purrfurmance this year. As you can see there are only 49 posts on our blog in 2009, and we admit it looks like Mommy was just phoning it in on a lot of them. Clearly, there is much room for improvement. On a scale of one to four paws, we give her one paw...(preferably on her face while she is trying to sleep). Despite the fact that Mommy has been a real slacker this year, she claims that there have been extenuating circumstances, and she promises to do better in the future. She will be finishing grad school in three weeks, and promises to spend much more time helping us blog after that. We have decided to keep her on as our assistant, but we will be keeping a very close eye on her. Clearly she needs much more snoopervision...we are sitting on her legs right now and are not going to let her up until she finishes this post to our satisfaction. In other news, Ambrose received a package in the mail. It's a prize from The Casbah Kitten's Halloween Contest, and it was filled with all sorts of wonderful toys and snacks. Thank you to Jane and Alice and their Momma for the wonderful prize package. Here are some pictures of us playing with the amazing spider toy. The giant spider has fancy details like really cool little fangs, stitched on beady little eyes, and a red spot on its belly. Ambrose is also lying on a couple of the catnippy jelly beans they sent him. He may think he can have them all to himself if he lies on them, but those jellybeans are so irresistible that I'm determined to snatch one away for myself...and while I'm at it I'm going to go for the spider too. Presenting Exhibit A... ...and his ginormous hiney On the day in question (yesterday) , Exhibit A and his ginormous sixteen pound hiney were loitering around the closed door to our basement...staring, whining, whimpering, grunting, sighing, meowing, and pawing at the doorknob trying to get Mommy to open the basement door so he could go cricket hunting. Mommy wouldn't open the door for him, because it makes her sad when he plays too rough with crickets and makes them go deaded. Since our back door is right beside our basement door, Mommy looked outside and noticed that one of the feral kitties she's been feeding was on the back deck waiting for a snack. Mommy took some food out to the little introoder and sat with him until he was finished. When she came back indoors, she noticed that something was very wrong. It was quiet indoors. Ambrose is always making a racket, and he was nowhere to be found. Mommy was frantic. She looked everywhere for him, but he could not be found. Mommy figured that he must have sneaked outdoors when she went outside to feed the feral kitty. Mommy has perfected some very impressive Ninja-like moves for getting out the door without letting us out, so she couldn't believe he was able to sneak out,..but that was the only explanation. Since it was getting dark, she hurried to go outdoors to search for Ambrose, but as she reached for the back door, she noticed something was amiss. The basement door was open a crack with the chain lock still latched. Since the switch for the back deck light is right outside the basement door, Mommy had opened the basement door a crack while leaving the chain lock latched and had reached through the two and a half inch crack to turn on the outdoor deck light without opening the basement door completely. Mommy usually shuts the door completely after turning on the light, but forgot this time. Ambrose used to be able to squeeze through that narrow crack in the door when he was a kitten...about ten pounds ago. Mommy knew there was no way Ambrose and his giant hiney could have fit through that crack now. But hoping for a miracle, she unlatched the chain lock to the basement door, and much to her surprise and relief, she saw Ambrose's sweet little face staring right back at her waiting to be let back in from the basement. We don't know how he did it without hurting himself, but Ambrose and his ginormous hiney actually squeezed through that tiny crack in the door with the chain lock latched. We are very happy our little Houdini is safe. As punishment for not shutting the basement door completely, Mommy is grounded. We will most likely give her the opportunity to shorten her sentence with good behavior such as giving us extra treats, scritches, and snuggles.

Halloween will soon be here, so I need to start thinking about what my Halloween costume will be this year. I'm pretty sure I can do better than last year when my mom just stuck a pumpkin sticker on my forehead. Can you believe what I have to put up with? I had lots of fun last Halloween. Finally, Mommy realized that if she got us a Boogie Mat, it would save her from having to vacuum up the loose nip after our nip parties. So after years of living in a boogie-free zone, we have undergone boogification, and we are pleased to announce we are boogified!

In other news, Mommy is still very busy with work and school, and as you may have noticed, she has been pretty worthless as a blogging assistant. As you can see from this picture, she is even making us kitties do her homework for her. Tattletale Tuesday - The Litter Monster

Busted! A few weeks ago, Mommy bought us a new automated self-cleaning litter box. She knew we would resist any change and wanted the transition to go smoothly, so she removed only two of our three old litter boxes. The one remaining box got dirty very quickly, so Mommy hoped we would use the new litter monster as a cleaner alternative. Well, inmate #056195243-5 pictured above had a brilliant plan of his own. The defendant "allegedly" expressed his displeasure of the new litter box situation by kicking a big pile of litter out of our old box into a giant pile on the floor. Mommy noticed it in the morning, but didn't have time to sweep it up before she left for work. When she returned home, she went to clean the old litter box and saw Ambrose squatting on the big pile of litter outside the box with a look of great concentration on his face. Yep, the little genius was relieving himself right on the pile of litter on the floor. After cleaning up the giant clump of litter that was stuck to the floor, Mommy was very close to giving us back all of our old litter boxes, but decided to give it a couple more days. On the next day, she was very pleased to see no messes outside the old litter box...until she went into the bathroom and found a little "gift" for her in the bathtub. Ewwwww, pretty gross. Mommy was definitely ready to surrender then, so she gave us back all of our old litter boxes. She realized that she had been very naive to think we would use a noisy, moving, litter monster. We won! We won! We won! Victory is sweet,... but we couldn't pass up this perfect opportunity to mess with Mommy's head, so guess what we did next? Yep, we started using the new self-cleaning litter monster. Mommy is very happy about that, but is waaaaay too afraid to take away any of our old litter boxes again for quite a while. Inmate #056195243-5 has received a full pardon in exchange for promising to never use the bathtub as a litter box ever, ever, ever again.

Ambrose says "With my new diet, I am so hungry I could eat the TV remote." Ambrose and I went to the v-e-t last weekend. When the vet called Ambrose a "big boy", Mommy asked her if she thought Ambrose should go on a diet. Not only did the vet say that Ambrose (at 16 lbs) should go on a diet, but she said that I (at 13 lbs.) should go on a diet too. Aaaaaak!!! I am pretty sure the vet's scales must be defective. While we were at the v-e-t, Mommy learned more about my mysterious past. Mommy asked the vet to approximate my age, since we don't know how old I am. Mommy mentioned that she thought I might be an older kitty, because I have so much difficulty jumping onto the bed that she had to buy pet steps to make it easier for me. The vet guessed that I am between 5 and 10 years old, and she discovered the reason that I don't jump very well. She said it appears that one of my back legs had been broken in the past, but was not properly set, so the bone juts out a little on the inside of my leg. Since I have been living with Mommy I have not been injured, so it had to have happened during the time I lived at the auto repair shop before I came to live with Mommy. The vet said she could rebreak the leg and reset it, but she thought it would be best just to leave it as is. It makes Mommy very sad to know that I suffered so much in my previous life. Now that my secret has been revealed, I plan to milk it for all it's worth. I think I can get her to wait on me hand and foot and spoil me even more than she already does. In other news, Clive the stray handsome black mancat that Mommy started feeding on our back deck this winter has been adopted by one of our neighbors. Clive had been living with us since December, but didn't seem to enjoy being around other kitties very much. He was welcome to live with us forever, but Mommy had hoped to find another home for him where he could get the individual attention he needs. Clive's new forever family is very nice. The best part is that they live nearby, so Mommy can visit Clive whenever she wants. We will miss Clive, but I think he will be very happy in his new home where there is a much better bean-to-kitty ratio to ensure that he will get lots of love, scritches, and attention.

July 12th was our blogoversary!...and Mommy is just now getting around to helping us celebrate. As you can see from the quiz Mommy took, she knows we are not pleased. (Since Mommy is the Keeper of the Stinky Goodness, we wouldn't really do it.) Today we are celebrating our 1st blogoversary, so we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our friends for welcoming us into the Cat Blogosphere with open arms and paws, sharing your wonderful adventures with us, and being the nicest furries and beans we have ever met. You have all become a very important part of every day for us. Even though Mommy is often too busy lately to help us comment, we insist on visiting our furriends' blogs almost every day. We thank all of you for taking the time to brighten our days by sharing your wonderful and amazing posts with us. We feel very fortunate to have found such a concentration of talented, creative, and enlightened friends. Although Mommy is still very busy with school and work, we hope to be able to start blogging more very soon. Thank you for a wonderful year!

Today, we have a very special guest blogger. Ta da! Introducing...Mommy! This is the mommy speaking: This is a very special time of year for me. All my precious kitties have had birthdays and gotcha days within the last couple of weeks, so this time of year reminds me how very lucky I am that these perfect little felines chose me. Today I share the story of how Grrreta rescued me. It all began on a rainy day in April of 2005. My life was about to change in the most magical way. I hadn't had a pet since I was a young child, and wasn't planning to get one. I was a bit of a workaholic and didn't spend much time at home, so I didn't even consider getting a pet. My life was happy and complete, and all was well. Then one day, I stopped by an auto repair shop and learned that the owner had recently died, and the shop was closing. As I was walking out, I noticed a pretty tortie kitty rubbing up against a bag of cat food. I heard one of the employees yelling at the cat and saw him throwing pennies at her really hard. I stopped in my tracks and demanded that he stop. He did, but as I spoke to him, another employee started poking the cat with a stick and making crude comments. I was horrified and insisted that he stop too. I asked whose cat she was. They told me she belonged to the shop owner who had just died, and that his family didn't want her. The receptionist had been asked to find her a home, but the one person who was willing to take her had returned her within two weeks. As I looked at that kitty's sweet face, I knew at that moment that I couldn't leave her there. I couldn't let her stay with those people. I definitely didn't need a cat. But, I knew that little cat desperately needed me more than anything in the world, so I told them I wanted to adopt her. I whisked her away to her new home at Casa de Mommy. I had no idea what I was doing, and I even caught myself sneaking up to her while she was sleeping to make sure she was still breathing. I was like a nervous new parent. Eventually I got the hang of it. In the four years that we have shared our home, Grrreta has taught me some of the most important life lessons that anyone could ever learn. 1. Napping. Everyone feels better after a nap. (How could I have spent so much of my life being too busy to nap?) 2. Kitty snuggles. There is no more magical feeling than snuggling with a warm furry kitty and listening to the comforting rhythm of a sweet rumbly purr. 3. Snacks. Serve them like clockwork, and never be late. 4. Sleeping at night. Totally optional...that's what naps are for. 5 Play. Let nothing get in the way of a good game of THoE, except maybe snacks and naps. On that rainy day in April, I thought that I was rescuing Grrreta, but as I look back on our wonderful life for the last four years, I realize that I was the one who was rescued. Grrreta saved me from a life without kitty snuggles, naps, and so much more. Kitties are sort of sneaky that way. They let you think that you are the one rescuing them, but they are the ones that rescue you and make your life richer than you could have ever imagined.

Kitty Ping Pong

Since Ambrose has lots of energy and can sometimes be a little too rambunctious for the rest of us kitties, Mommy is always on the look-out for toys that will keep him occupied. He loves batting balls around, but they usually end up under furniture. Mommy decided to buy some more balls, so she wouldn't have to retrieve them every day. Well, she really outdid herself this time. She found a great deal on 144 ping pong balls...yup, 144 of them! This is the box they came in. She had already taken out over 100 of them by the time this picture was taken. We love our ping pong balls! We can barely wait for next weekend when Mommy cleans house and has to retrieve all of those balls from under the furniture. ** Also, Parker of Perfectly Parker is entered in the "My Curious Cat Contest" . Taking a Break

Mommy's course load at school is about to get heavier, so we will be taking a break from posting for a while. Mommy works full time, and goes to school in the evening, so she doesn't have much time to help us blog. We will still try to visit as many of our friends' blogs as possible on weekends, as time allows after Mommy finishes her homework. We will miss all of you very much. Looky what we grew! Yum! I love to eat cat grass, but Ambrose doesn't. He just likes to sniff it, rip it out of the planter, and toss it on the floor. My precious, delicious, yummy cat grass!!!

We heard about the Bergan Turbo Track Cat Toy on The Psychokitty Speaks , and just had to have one...or three. We finally found some for sale on Amazon.com, and since our gotcha days are coming up in the next month, Mommy got three sets for an early gotcha day gift. We used all three sets to make this configuration. We've all sniffed it, but so far Ambrose is the only one who has played with it. We have played with the box a lot though.

Ambrose had a very busy night...booked for disturbing the peace, speeding, possession of catnip, semi-public urination, assault with the paw of doom, whapping his bungee critter toy against the door repeatedly in the middle of the night, and grand theft mousie...he claims that he was framed.

. The defendant has reached a deal with the prosecutor. In exchange for all charges being dropped, he has agreed to enter a catnip rehab program and refrain from having a kitty party while Mommy is trying to sleep.

It is a film we posted previously, but we think is absolutely hilarious and worth watching over and over. Ambrose's favorite game is playing Fetch. He gets Mommy to fling the fevver wand until he catches it and won't let go. He drags it away into another room. I wonder where Bob the teddy bear is? See how the TV has the closed captioning turned on...Mommy didn't turn it on, and she can't figure out how to turn it off. (The TV settings already have the CC set to off.) She thinks that we kitties are conspiring against her and that we turned it on while she was at work. I think Bob did it. Where could he be? I wonder if Bob is taking a nap somewhere.

Today it is 8 degrees fahrenheit and snowing. Brrrrrrrh! This is my electric heated kitty cup. Even though Mommy keeps the house pretty warm in the winter, I love to nap in this warm little bed. If I'm not snuggling with Mommy, she knows exactly where to find me...right here. **** We are very sorry that we have been so scarce lately. Mommy is taking classes this semester that meet after work three times a week, so she has been very busy. One of her classes ends this weekend, so we should be around more after that. We will try our best to look pathetic so that she makes time to help us visit our friends' blogs.

The Birds

Lately our back yard has resembled a Hitchcock film. Every evening, our trees fill with noisy crows. They are very skeery. Here's a video of them. You can hear crow sounds if your turn the volume up. We usually love birds, but we're askairt of these. There were lots more birdies earlier, but Mommy accidentally took a picture of them with the flash on, and as it turns out crows are very askeered of flash photography. A squillion of them flew away before she filmed the video. Clive Update:

In other news, Mommy took the stray black kitty, Clive, to the vet to scan for a microchip and get a check-up and vaccinations. He did not have a microchip, but he had already had a hoo-ha-ectomy. He is healthy except that he is very skinny, had fleas, and has a bald spot on his back where the fur has been rubbed off. He's now de-flea-ified, eating like a little piglet, and hopefully transitioning to be an indoor kitty. We'll put up posters and run an ad to see if he has a family that is looking for him. Luckily he has a white spot that will help someone prove that he is their kitty. If no one claims him, he will be my new brother.

We worked very hard this year as snoopervisors to earn our allowances, and we finally saved enough green papers to buy Mommy a very nice Christmas gift. But, then Ambrose blew all of our savings on a three day catnip bender. Fortunately, we "found" some more green papers in Mommy's purse, so we were able to buy Mommy exactly what she wanted for Christmas, a Gandalf and Grayson 2009 calendar. It has some gorgeous photos of two very handsome mancats. Those sweet little gray boys, Gandalf and Grayson, are donating all of the profits toward sponsoring cats at no-kill shelters and for various other donations to help kitties in need in the Cat Blogosphere. Isn't Grayson dreamy! Ooops, I think I drooled a little on the page. Gandalf is very handsome too! He's my other favorite. I can have two favorites!

Zoolander's modeling pose was called blue steel. I wonder if Gandalf has a name for his pose.

You may have noticed that I have not been commenting for the first few days of each week recently. That is because Mommy has been taking evening classes after work and doing homework. Mommy has a final paper due on Wednesday, so she will be pretty worthless until this coming Thursday. We Got Ham !!!

YAY!!! We got ham! We got yum yum yummy, delicious ham! Just look how delicious.... Hey,...that's not ham! But, they are our brand new Forty Paws ham-micks that Mommy got us for early Christmas gifts. Yay! I wonder if Dorf tested them personally. They are very cute and comfy. Ambrose and I have already had a discussion about which of us gets the white one. Mommy also got us this cool toy. It's called fling-ama-string, and Ambrose has been playing with it for about three hours straight since we opened the box today. Mommy hung it on her bedroom door, so we can play right next to her when she's using the computer. It is a string on a tiny conveyor belt. Mommy was afraid that her arm muscles were going to look like Popeye's if she kept flinging feather wands around for us to chase, so she's hoping this will help keep us occupied so her arm can rest. (This is a toy that should be used only when a bean is supervising.) Here's a video of Ambrose playing with it.
